NC500 Bed And Breakfast On Loch Duich
no need to go on a detour…A Night Off The North Coast 500
water on one side, mountains on the other…We run a small B&B on the A87 at Inverinate, right on the shore of Loch Duich. Eilean Donan Castle is a few minutes west of us, the Skye Bridge is about ten miles on, and Glen Shiel and the Five Sisters of Kintail are not far the other direction. Inverness is 68 miles east, Applecross is to the north, so we work as the western corner of the route whichever way round you’re driving it.
Our garden ends at Loch Duich, breakfast is included, and in the evening Mike can sit down with a map and help mark up the next day for you; guests regularly tell us he found them roads and stops they’d never have known about.

single-track, up the glen
Plenty of our guests arrive on two wheels, and the A87 through Glen Shiel is a reason in itself: a wide, well-surfaced sweep through a glacial valley with the Five Sisters overhead. On a good day the end of Scotland is a rider’s paradise.
We have some practical amenities close by. The village petrol station is just along the road, with a shop for topping up supplies, so there’s no fuel maths to do before you set off. There’s private parking off the road at the house, every room has a radiator that will dry gloves and liners overnight, and if you’re away early for a ferry, tell us the night before and breakfast will be sorted. If the bike lets you down, Morar Motors in Kyle of Lochalsh, about ten miles away, runs a 24-hour recovery service.
One route worth knowing about: from Shiel Bridge the old military road climbs over Mam Ratagan to Glenelg, where the MV Glenachulish, the last manually operated turntable ferry in the world, crosses to Skye from spring to autumn. Bikes go for a few pounds, paying on board.
